Last night I played a $20 buy-in 20/40 cent blind pot limit hold'em poker. I started off great. Within the first 30 minutes, I was dealt pocket aces twice, pocket kings once, and big slick (ace and king) 3 times. all were winners of pre-flop pots. I prefer to take down a small pot with a big hand.
anyway, I immediately moved into the chip leader position. I was then dealt a series of small pocket pairs and aces with decent kickers. continuing to grow my chip share, I then picked up pocket 6 on the botton; which, 5 handed is an easy raising hand. I had 3 callers and the flop came out 3s, 5d, and 9c.
having the second pair, I quickly bet the pot, which was around $10.00 and was raised the pot again by a previous checker. I let my hand go as I couldn't beat the 9. though, my opponent probably had a better hand. anyway, it was an easy laydown.
things slowed down a bit, then I caught a couple more big hands. a flush and a full house. both made very good money for me. at this point, I was in the lead by almost double everyone elses stack.
two new players came and we almost had a full talble. 2nd to act, the persion in front of me called a small raise. I had pocket jacks and raised the pot. the small blind cold called and under the gun raised the pot again. at this point, I couldn't lay my hand down. I was already deeply invested in the pot. my raiser was almost all-in. I raised again, to try and get the player behind me to fold or dontae money.
the under the gun player was playing with pocket kings (destoying my hand). the 3rd player called with Qh and Jd. needless to say, I won the side pot which was almost nothing. and the kings took down a huge pot and took over as chip leader.
for the rest of the night, I kept peeling small pots here and there but never really regained my stature as chip leader.
midnight rolled around and my ride was leaving. I cashed out $24 more than what I showed up with and was happy to keep it.
